Taste at the cloud

Taste At The Cloud was a signature attraction and food showcase held that took place at Auckland’s waterfront during the excitement of the Rugby World Cup. The event was organised by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) to promote the best of New Zealand food products and cuisine to corporate travellers, buyers and tourists. With an urgent 4 week deadline for the website to go live, our team worked up against the clock to deliver a desktop and mobile experience for one of the largest food events of the year.

The background

The website was to highlight the event, promote suppliers in both the NZ food and beverage industry, and also to entice people to experience for themselves. The website is built upon rich regional photography and tantalising dishes, accompanied by compelling content, interesting facts, chef biographies and specialist recipes.

Mood board & UI patterns

Each sector contained different background images, fading in and out as users moved from one page to another. For the Gallery section, I used a grid layout (Masonry) to display interesting event images without creating space around the images.

Strategy & Concept

As the the website contained a lot of information, instead of displaying all this information at once, I moved some content to tabs to show and reveal them. This would allow users to find and read content easily without becoming overwhelmed by too much content. For the sector detail templates and recipe detail page, I designed an editorial layout. This would make content more readable and easier to digest for users who are more familiar with print materials.

Not only did the site compliment the event's printed collateral extremely well, it also acted as a source of extra information for visitors to find more information on particular suppliers that were present at the event.

Concept development

The environment

Using the Umbraco content management system the site became a real-time view-finder of the exhibitions launch party, on-going festivities and not to forget a mobile experience which focused on providing time saving directions to the event, opening hours and ticket costs.

The Result

My pride in this website is beyond just meeting the deadline - my team efforts led to a polished execution. I even dedicated my time to content loading the website in order to meet our launch date.


2012 Umbraco Awards - Best Design - Runner-up - 2012

The Umbraco Awards pitched us against the best of the global Umbraco developer community and we missed first place for design by a whisker. "Overall Terabyte’s work was clearly up there with the very best from the Umbraco community and the votes were very close between their work and the category winners” said Peter Gregory from Umbraco HQ Australia.

Webby Honoree - 2012

Selected as an Official Honoree for the 16th Annual Webby Awards in the Events Category. With nearly 10,000 entries received from over 60 countries, the Official Honoree distinction is awarded to the top 15% of all work entered that exhibits remarkable achievement.
